The B-17 Bomber

The B-17 Bomber
Boeing, America, Britain-
America needed a Bomber that was able to travel a longer distance without running out of full and they needed a bomber that had more armor and could take more blows because bombers were main targets for enemy pilot’s, also AA guns. “United States Army Air Corps’ 1934, demand for a multi-engine bomber.” Boeing were able to make this change by creating many prototypes and by upping the armor and increasing the vertical stabilizer to prolong a flight. To increase distance Boeing added larger wings and fuel tanks along with 4 engines. “Developed by the Boeing Company in the 1930’s, the B-17 was a four engine heavy bomber aircraft used by the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. It was a very effective weapons system, dropping more bombs during the war than any other American aircraft.” From July 28th 1935 to April 20th 1944. The year span is 9 years for the B-17 Bomber. “An aircraft that played a pivotal role in the outcome of the war, the B-17 Flying Fortress.” Without the B-17 America could have very well lost the war, The B-17 destroyed many German factories that produced weapons and very much damaged the German economy making it hard to fight back. Bombing Radis and terror bombings took place ate Germany, and the B-17 were disunited between America and the RAF (Royal Air Force, Europe).
