Pilot Shortage

Dennis Muilenburg says by the next 20 years Boeing will need 800,000 new pilots and 750,000 new aviation technicians to support the new 44,000 airplanes for flights across the world.” The 737 Max has been grounded across the globe since mid-March after a deadly crash involving the jet in Ethiopia. Less than five months earlier, a Boeing Max crashed in Indonesia. The disasters killed a total of 346 people. Investigators said the jet’s MCAS flight control system, which is designed to push the aircraft’s nose down to prevent stalling, was involved in the crashes. Boeing’s chief executive said he was not focused on orders for the 737 Max during his time in the French capital, insisting there would be “plenty of opportunities” in the coming months.” Because of the two crashes Boeing has taken action to ground the planes across the world and are “scrambling to restore confidence” in the planes ability and faults. dennis Muilenburg says that he expects to green light to fly again this year.

  1. I think this was relay interesting but I was wondering about what you think will happen if the crashes continue.

    Thanks

  2. Hey Conner,
There is a lot of good information in this post, and the two plane crashes probably hurt the amount of piloting industry. How do you think the two planes crashed? Was it a coincidence?

  3. Hey Conner,
I was wondering while I was reading this when the planes crashed, was it this year or a last year. I thought about this since you included that “Less than five months earlier, a Boeing Max crashed in Indonesia”. Thanks for reading my comment and I hope to hear back from you.
    Sincerely Danny

  4. Hi Conner,
I think that it is really cool that you are so interested in planes! Do you think it is going to be easy or difficult for Boeing to get pilots due to the huge crash? Not only will it be hard to get pilots, but do you think it might be difficult to get people to fly on the boeings?

  5. Dear Conner,
After these chrashes do you think that this will really effect Boeing’s reputation and less people will fly in the near future?
